Attention Chihuahua Club Of America Members
The Chihuahua Health Related Issues Committee is pleased to offer
a series of DVD's from the AKC/Canine Health Foundation's 2007
Philadelphia Breeders' Symposium. Our Friends at
Nestle
Purina PetCare have been kind enough to allow us to duplicate them for
you, the club members. They contain seminars on topics such as
Canine Cardiac Disease, Assisted Reproduction, and Vaccinations: Less
Is More!, and other topics. This is an excellent venue in
which to learn about sound breeding practices and genetic health
testing, that helps our dogs to live happier, healthier and longer
lives. They can also be used as an educational program for your
local chihuahua clubs. Please visit the Chihuahua Health Related
Issues Booth over the October Specialty week-end to obtain your
set. (Limit one set per household). Donations Will Gladly Be
Accepted. There will also be a Cardiac Clinic offered at our Specialty, and
an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluation. Proceeds will go to the CCA
Chihuahua Health Related Issues Fund.

CCA is excited to announce that Dr.
Beverly J. Purswell will presentinformation re how to increase the
conception rate in our Chihuahuas(breeding management for natural
breedings, cooled shipped semen, and frozen semen). Dr. Purswell
will discuss the male in the context of
breeding management; how to
care for and feed the dam during her pregnancy and whelping; neonatal
health and the pertinent diseases (viral and bacterial); and
vaccination programs.
Dr. Purswell, DVM, Ph.D., graduated from
the University of Georgia and has been teaching at the
Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine since
1985. She is a Diplomat, American College of Theriogenology (animal
reproduction) and has been practicing and
teaching Canine
Reproduction for 30+ years. Dr Purswell is also a Certified
Veterinary Acupuncturist. She and her Dobermans compete in
conformation and obedience events. |
Cardiac OFA Testing
We will be offering Cardiac OFA testing October 4, 2008 at the
Fall National Specialty in Chicago.
Here is your chance to have your Chihuahua’s heart
tested by board certified specialist, Dr. Eva Sikorska .
The exam consists of the Dr. Sikorska listening to your
dog’s heart sounds with a stethoscope and evaluating any
murmur which may be present. All examinations will be
private and confidential. There is no minimum age.
Pre-show price is $25 per dog, payable by check or cash.
After 9/15/08 the fee is $30.00All proceeds to benefit the
CCA Chihuahua Health Related Issues Fund pace is limited
and appointments will be made on a first
come first
serve basis. The Cardiac test is one of 3 tests required
in order to earn a Canine Health Information Center (CHIC)
number for Chihuahuas. (Patellar Luxation, Congenital
Cardiac, and Canine Eye Registry Foundation.) We will also
have AKC DNA kits available with the Parent Club discount
of $30.00 each. A $10.00 savings over the individual rate!
CCA Healthy Heart Club. Each participating Chihuahua will
receive special recognition.
